Why Pittsburgh calls Elite Concrete Floors
The half of the trade that works on the top inch
Rick Chase started this business in January 2004 and has spent 22 years on western Pennsylvania concrete. He prices every job himself and runs the crew afterwards, so the man who read your slab is the man who decides how it gets ground and finished. Elite Concrete Floors is a BBB Accredited Business with an A plus rating and holds Pennsylvania contractor registration PA108735.
Almost every slab we are called out to is in the same state. The concrete itself is fine, and the top of it has taken twenty winters of salt and meltwater, a couple of coats of whatever was on sale at the time, and the traffic of a working building or a busy garage. Freeze and thaw does the damage: water soaks into the open pores of bare concrete, expands when it freezes, and lifts the surface off a flake at a time. Every winter takes a little more, and by the time somebody calls us it looks like the slab is finished. It usually is not, and that is the whole point of this half of the trade.
Surface repair instead of replacement is normal, well documented practice, and the American Concrete Institute publishes the standards the trade works to.

Concrete Surface Services in Wexford
Concrete Resurfacing
Most concrete that looks finished is not. It is a sound slab with a worn out top: pitted from salt and freeze and thaw, patched here and there, smooth in the traffic lanes and rough everywhere else. Resurfacing renews that top layer without the demolition, the skip or the cure time. Read about concrete resurfacing.
Concrete Sealing
Bare concrete drinks in everything that lands on it, and around here that means oil, salty meltwater and whatever came off the road. Sealing keeps all of it on the surface, which stops the staining, the dusting and the freeze and thaw damage at the source. See concrete sealing.

Straight answers about your concrete floor questions
Do you pour concrete?
No. We finish concrete that is already in place. Pouring slabs, driveways, patios, steps and footings, and any structural repair, are a different trade and we will point you at one rather than take the job.
Do you fix cracks?
We fill and grind surface cracks flat as part of preparing a floor, so they disappear into the finish. A crack that is actively moving needs a concrete contractor first, because no surface work will hold it closed.
What is the difference between resurfacing and replacing?
Resurfacing keeps the slab and renews the top of it, so nothing gets broken out and door and drain heights stay the same. Replacing means demolition, disposal, a new pour and weeks of cure time.
How do I know which one my floor needs?
Rick looks at it. If the slab is sound underneath and only the surface has gone, it is a resurfacing job. If it is moving, sinking or cracking full depth, you need a concrete contractor first and he will tell you so.
How long have you been doing this?
Elite Concrete Floors started in January 2004, so 22 years on western Pennsylvania concrete. We are a BBB Accredited Business with an A plus rating and hold Pennsylvania contractor registration PA108735.
Where do you work?
Out of Wexford, across Allegheny, Beaver, Butler, Lawrence, Mercer and Westmoreland counties. That takes in Pittsburgh, Cranberry Township, Gibsonia, Franklin Park, Zelienople and the towns around them.
