Zelienople concrete floors

An old town with old concrete in it

Zelienople is a straight run north up Route 19 from home base in Wexford, past Cranberry and into Butler County. The borough was laid out in 1802 and named for the daughter of the man who founded it, and next door sits Harmony, settled by the Harmony Society a few years later.

Towns that old ask different questions of a floor guy. Basements with slabs poured across several eras, shop and garage buildings behind Main Street, and newer houses on the edges. All of it is workable, it just has to be read first, which is the part 22 years of doing this actually buys you.

Creek, salt and winters that test a slab

The Connoquenessing runs through the middle of the borough, and living beside a creek is part of the deal. Ground near water holds water, and a basement slab sitting on it passes vapor up through the concrete all year. That is the number one reason a finish lets go below grade, and it has nothing to do with the product on top, so we test before we quote.

Above ground it is the usual Butler County winter. Route 19 is salted for months, the salt comes home in the meltwater, and freeze and thaw lifts the top off any concrete that is not sealed. A sealed floor keeps both on the surface.

What we handle here

Floors we finish in Zelienople

Stained Concrete In Older Homes

Stain soaks into the slab and reacts with it, so an old basement floor comes out copper, amber or charcoal with real variation in it. Ideal where the house has some age. See what we do below grade.

Garage And Shop Floors

Detached garages and small shop buildings behind Main Street take a hard life. Ground open, filled, coated and sealed, they wipe clean instead of shedding dust. See the garage build.

Resurfacing Tired Slabs

Plenty of concrete in a town this old is sound underneath with a surface that has given up. A new wear layer beats breaking it out. See a new wear surface.

Main Street Business Floors

Shops, studios and back of house areas along the borough. Polished concrete needs no waxing and brightens a room on the lights already in it. See commercial and industrial floors.

Why Zelienople calls us

We would rather test it than guess at it

Rick Chase drives up to Zelienople and does the estimate himself. He looks at how the slab sits, what the surface has been through and whether the concrete is giving off moisture, then runs the crew that grinds and finishes it.

He is honest about the limits of the trade. He does not pour concrete and he does not fix a slab that is breaking up underneath. What he does is take the surface back to bare and put a floor on it that lives with a Butler County winter.

Old Zelienople, new Zelienople, same truck

Main Street and the streets off it are the historic core, with Harmony a few minutes away across the creek and the Harmony Museum keeping the story of the place. Buildings that old have basements and outbuildings with concrete from several different decades in the same footprint.

Out towards Route 19 and the newer developments it is a different picture: modern slabs, attached garages and basements that have never been used for anything. We take the same grinder to both.

Straight answers about your concrete floor questions

Is Zelienople too far for you?

Not at all. It is a straight run north up Route 19 from Wexford, and our BBB profile lists Butler County as a service area. Call (724) 313-7520 and Rick will arrange a time.

My Zelienople house is over a hundred years old. Can the basement floor be finished?

Usually yes, and old slabs often take a stain or a polish beautifully once the paint and adhesive are ground off. We check the concrete for moisture first, because ground near the creek holds water.

There is more than one slab down there at different heights. Is that a problem?

It is common in an old house and it is workable. Rick will look at the levels, the thresholds and how the rooms join, and tell you what can be made to read as one floor and what cannot.

Do you cover Harmony and Evans City as well as Zelienople?

Yes. The list is where we work most often, not a fence line. Call with the address and the size of the slab and you will hear yes or no on the spot.

Can you work on a Main Street business floor?

Yes. Shops, studios and back of house areas around Zelienople get the same grinding and the same finishes as a house, planned around your opening hours so the doors stay open.

Do you fix crumbling concrete?

We resurface a slab whose top has gone, which covers most of it. What we do not do is pour concrete or carry out structural repair, and you will hear that straight rather than after a deposit.
